Is politics like a game of chess?

Are we, the public, the pawns? With no disrespect intended to Her Majesty, some might say our politicians are like royalty.

However, there are new pieces appearing on the board. Our Prime Minister says that he will retire before the next election and Mr Bush must retire at the end of his second term of office. In Germany, there is a new Chancellor and in other countries, there have been changes too.

Is Gordon Brown to be crowned the next Prime Minister? Will he meet the challenge of the new leader of the opposition, David Cameron, or will it be the Menzies Campbell of the Liberal Democrats. Who will be knighted next? As the political chess board changes, strategies are changing too. If there is a hung parliament, Menzies could be the king maker.

Let us hope that the new game plan allows for less red tape. Let us start with a simple move for a new business and have one form that can be used across the board to register a new business.

Check, Mr Brown’s move.
